Deep Arora asked:

The development of a website for promoting your business online is a necessary part of the modern day business. Having a website doesnt simply end there, when you create your website you need to start the process of getting traffic to your site; in particular you need to get search engines to find your site so that you can increase your page ranking. It is widely acknowledged that the more links you can establish to your site, the faster and higher your site will go in the page rankings. The dilemmas of finding quality links can be the major stumbling block of many businesses. One way that you can overcome this is to create your own blog.

The benefit to having a blog is that you can automatically link it back to your webpage, giving you one of those all important links. The other great advantage of blogs is that they generally get higher importance from search engines. Like website SEO, blog SEO is becoming a key concept when marketing your blog and driving more traffic to your site.

Some of the key advantages of having a blog to improve your SEO is that aside from linking back to your website, it demonstrates that you know your stuff. When you give your visitors great information at the blog then you instill more confidence in them, making your business preferential to them. It can also be a great way to receive information about your customers, develop a rapport with them and also to improve your sales and marketing by getting a stronger understanding of your customers.

When you establish a blog you have the ability to demonstrate your niche skills and to create quality content that complements the scope of your core business site. The internal linking as mentioned before is also of great benefit. You can ensure that a good quality link exists from your blog to your web pages, a great way to increase web traffic and boost your search engine ranking.

Why a blog is good for SEO?

o Using a blog is a good boost for your SEO practices, because they can potentially reach your customers and boost your search engine ranking the fastest. When you are creating a blog for business and to improve your SEO, there are several things you should try to consider.

o Select a series of keywords or keyword phrases that you would like to include in your blog and focus your postings so that you can post additional information that centres on these key words each day. When you incorporate these key words, then you should be clear about what the keyword is, and it is worthwhile including it in the first paragraph, within the first 25 words or thereabouts. Be sure to place a hyperlink to you website using the keyword as the starting point, this is then able to help guide the search engines to your site, as well as driving traffic to your site.

Getting your blog started quickly and easily

o To create your own blog is a straightforward process. First of all go to an blogging site and signup. Finding out the reputable sites is a simple step but will be well worth the effort. You will be asked for routine signup information, such as email, password and username. Once this is done you can select a blog URL and template; this can then be customised as much or as little as you see fit. When you get to this stage you are just about ready to go live. All you need now is to write your first post or article and publish it.

Once your blog is ready a good tip is to keep your posts at length of around 250 words. This is considered a good compromise between a length that is suitable for search engines that prefer to find longer texts, and a length at which you will keep the readers interest through to the end of your writing. So now you know why and how to establish a blog for improving your SEO, what are you waiting for? A blog is a quick and efficient way to boost your web presence; and when you see the results you will be glad you started one.

Some Common Link Building Methods for SEO

IC asked:

e primary activities in SEO that will arguably have the most impact on your sites position in the search engine rankings is link building. A web pages position in the SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) is largely dependent on the number and quality of other pages linking to the page. Here we present some of the more common link building techniques to increase your inbound links.

1. Directory submission: Link directories contain pages of categorized links. One method to obtain back links involves submitting your site to these link directories. Directories can be either paid, free or requiring a reciprocal link. The most well known directories include the Yahoo directory and dmoz.

2. Article Submission: Submission of articles to article directories is another common link building technique. At the bottom of an article you submit to an article directory is an author’s bio where you can include links to your site, as can be seen at the bottom of this article. One of the positive traits of this form of link building is that you can word your author bio as you want and therefore, have choice over the anchor text of the link.

3. Social Bookmark Submission: Social bookmark sites allow you to bookmark web pages online, and when you do a link is created to the page you bookmark. Submitting pages to social bookmark sites is another common method of link building.

4. Blog Posting.: Similar to article submission, you may be able to contact owners of blogs relating to your niche and provide them with quality content for them to post on their blog. In this content you may put a link back to your site. The key here is to provide quality content so that it is worthwhile for the owner of the blog to post your content.

5. Link Exchange: Some sites participate in link exchanges, where you link to a site in exchange for a link from their site. It is important in link exchange to exchange quality links in limited numbers. There is not a lot of value in much of the mass link exchange some sites engage in that have many pages of links devoted to their link exchanges.

6. Link Bait: This involves the writing of content, of posting of pictures or other interesting posts that other webmaster will find interesting and worth linking too. If the content is of high enough quality if may be featured on sites such as digg, potentially attracting a large number of organic links.

So here we have presented a number of the more common link building techniques. There are many others and a good way to keep up with current link building trends is to become active on one of the many popular web master forums. The key is to try different methods and attempt to get a feel for which methods are more effective through monitoring your sites position in the SERPS. You may want to establish several sites and explore different link building techniques with each site, thus allowing you to observe which technique provides better performance.

Powerful Link Building Procedure Accompanied by Patience

Mike Standing asked:

The real intention behind all of the search engine optimization and link building campaigns is to have better website rankings. You as the webmaster have already set up your online presence through your own domain name and internet address but after taking a look at the millions of websites listed and competing with each other on Google and other search engines, you might feel a bit confused.

You might wonder what you actually are going to do to be among the top ranking websites and since you have heard from another webmaster that links are the real factor behind the search engines success today, so begin your link building programs.

But do you have any idea of the number of links to be named as perfect and enough? Are you going to add the links to your website homepage based on a flashing and rushing method, creating tens and hundreds of new links per week? Who are you going to ask for learning the optimal number of links needed for your web pages?

Well, these and so many other questions might come across your mind because no one actually knows the exact answers to the questions mentioned.

So what is the solution, you might ask? In fact all of the professionals in the search engine optimization world suggest that the hurried methods will lead to some problems and failures on the web and the link building pace too is one of the steps to be taken with considerations, study and patience.

Please note that the successful websites are the ones having patient webmasters and owners, because the search engines in general and Google in particular is very wise when it comes to adding some links to websites and by establishing too many links in a short period of time, you might actually damage your site raking on the web.

Please do not get yourself confused with the number of the links needed for having a top ranking site. It is not that easy to mention whether 5 or 25 links are enough to push your website among the top ten websites on Google, because if it was that easy, no website could be at the top of the listings for a long time as others would outperform it by adding more links.

But in reality you can see that many of the top ranking websites in every niche are able to remain there for a long time, and some of them might be there for years, and without any fears from other colleagues and competitors getting to the top of them.

But one thing about these powerful websites is always true and that is the pace of adding the new links.

Nearly all of the high ranking websites have been involved in link building programs using an assured way of adding the new inbound links regularly and not too hurriedly.

Please note that it might take a long time to get high rankings this way but it is very helpful in practice.

All of the search engines love to see the progress of websites achieved through a constant, regular approach and this is why Google for example never likes to see thousands of instant links added to a very newly built website overnight.

One other important point to be mentioned in this regard is that the newer a website is, the harder it is to have better search engine rankings and so the more caution it needs when it comes to add some new inbound links to it.

The older websites, especially the ones having domain names registered some years ago, have already passed some obstacles in their link building campaigns and they might be adding some new links faster and nothing happens to their rankings and this confirms the point that after several years of a website launching, gradually the website will be getting more powerful regularly.

By reviewing the points mentioned, we come into the conclusion that the matter of search engine optimization and the hot discussion of link building, are the real factors behind the success of every website on the web and you can achieve both of them through patience and a constant campaign and approach.

Link Building For Beginners

November 21, 2008

link building methods
John Tremblay asked:

Link building is the process of adding links between two or more web sites. A link is somewhat like a short cut through the millions of web pages. Links are presumed to indicate which sites visit other sites for information gathering or receiving.

Link building is done primarily for one of two reasons. Either the link building is done in order to build traffic to your web site, or it is done for the purpose of search engine optimization.

Building traffic to your web site is primarily for the purpose of Pay per Click programs and these links are often different from those which are for the purpose of search engine optimization. There are even a few links which are able to build traffic AND improve search engine rankings.

When you are building links for search engine optimization, you will not necessarily get more traffic. The converse is true as well. Just because a link provides good traffic, doesn’t mean that it is good for search engine optimization.

Some web sites and forums have been set up for the primary purpose of building Pay-per-Click revenue, but because these sites are known for this purpose, they do not increase the page ranking in the search engine optimization aspect of link building. The algorithms used by the search engines do not consider such traffic building sites in any appreciable sense when developing page rankings.

Some search engines, more specifically, Google, use the link building feature of the web site as a primary part of the page ranking algorithm. The Google search engine wants to see web pages with a good number of quality incoming links and only a few outgoing links. This would indicate that the information on the specific web page is recognized as being the definitive information on the particular subject or category of information.

Some of the early search engine optimization efforts used link farms, in which thousands of web page links were bought and sold through the medium of ‘link farms’. Of course, this was not hard to detect and eliminate by the search engine indexing process. Links from known link farms were simply eliminated from consideration in the page ranking algorithms.

As some web page owners found to their dismay, the continued use of such link farm links to a web page could result in a lower ranking than would otherwise have occurred, or even to complete removal of the affected web page from the rankings completely. This tactic when used by those claiming to perform search engine optimization has led to law suits and while not technically a black hat method for search engine optimization, definitely has detrimental effects.

It can take a web page owner weeks or even months of begging, explanations, negotiations and promises to get back in the good graces of the search engine spiders after an experience such as this.

Entire books have been written on ways to use link building correctly to improve your web page standings, but it not that difficult as a web page owner to review carefully the type of presence which is desired on the internet and make sure any links foster the desired view.

Building Links The Right Way

November 21, 2008

building links
Vasileios Tyrmakidis asked:

Link building has benefits for webmasters. There are beliefs that this improves your search engine ranking as well as generally gets the word on your site out to a greater audience. As with most options for webmasters, this area offers both potential benefits as well as penalties.

The easy ways are simple. Enlist the power of family, friends and associates who all have web pages or web sites. Get as many as possible to link to your web site. Of course, this is only the start of the links you’ll want.

There once was a popular practice online called, “link farming.” This was in high demand because it was believed that links had a far greater impact on a web site’s popularity. In truth, links do help your web site, but this is only to a point. You can’t have a poorly coded web site and expect to jump to the top 100 just by linking.

People who operated link farms didn’t focus enough on content and, as a result, web engines began punishing those who maintained pages too similar to link farms. Why was this an unwanted practice?

One of the main reasons this was undesirable was because the pages simply had no real content. Web masters who practiced link farming literally created page after page of links. There was no content, no navigation, nothing of any substance whatsoever. Web surfers were finding themselves trapped on pages that didn’t offer anything aside from links.

Search engines grew wise and began avoiding such link-filled pages. Soon after that, those once-popular web sites started declining in popularity and visitation.

There are a far better methods of utilizing the power of links and webmasters can rest assured there will be no rank deductions for practicing them. Remember, the benefits of link exchanges should be two-fold. Not only do you want your rankings improved, you want more traffic.

Link exchanges are a great way to both give and create links to your site. In turn, this will give a good flow of traffic. These are best done on pages where surfers are told to expect links. You can give your page such titles as, “friends,” “affiliates,” or even, “associates.” In order for your page to avoid the “link farm” category, you must consider your visitor.

For every link you offer, give them some information on what the site is about. Link farmers avoided this and didn’t give their visitors any information on the site. You can include the site’s title, its mission, or just a brief statement on why it is appropriate on your web site.

The best link exchanges will be with sites offering similar information. If you maintain a web site on the fun of homemade crafts, you may not see a great benefit from linking with an online casino company. However, you can link with suppliers, teachers, or hobbyists and see a great influx of traffic.

One practice that you don’t want to undertake is the fruitless link. Many webmasters will link up with anyone and everyone, regardless, and expect this aggressive linking to have a positive result. It does little more than annoy many other webmasters and imply your site is a “seedy,” one.

Aggressive linking has no merit and there is no reason for it. Certainly, you can’t often get direct permission from a site’s administration and this doesn’t cover legitimate recognition. If you cite a work or post on a message board that another member may benefit from a web site you visit, there’s nothing wrong with that. That’s a genuine purpose. Just linking for the sake of linking doesn’t give you any results.

Many webmasters who link this way spend far too much time attempting to drum up visitors who may or may not be curious when they should also be focusing on code, purpose, organization, and drawing legitimate, steady traffic. Link exchanging is the greatest benefit when it’s a cooperative effort. Otherwise it would simply be called, “linking.”

Another way of building links is through the paying services. These companies do require a financial investment, but many are highly worthwhile. Be wary in this arena, though, it may get you into trouble with the search engines if you are simply buying links from another site. You can always trade content with associates in your industry. This helps when a “blurb” is left. You may find that just a link in the copyright information of your article or press release can drive a great deal of traffic to you.

These tips are only the start in a topic that has held the attention, and fascination, of webmasters for years. Linking can be beneficial and draw a great deal of traffic to your site; however a few rules must be observed to obtain optimum link efficiency.

Building Links To Your Site: Vital For Seo Success, Part 2

November 21, 2008

building links
Adrian Adams asked:

When it comes to building links to your site, there are a couple of areas you want to pay special attention to.

Be careful with link exchanges. Link exchanging is the process of you placing someone else’s link on your web pages in exchange for them doing the same for you. Be careful of what sites you link to – you don’t want your site to be linking to a bunch of low quality or unethical sites.

Be especially wary of automated link exchange programs. These systems may save you time, but they are frowned upon by the search engines and may cause you problems. Google, Yahoo, and MSN may penalize your site for using automated link exchange programs (often called link farms), or they may even ban your site.

If you decide to engage in link exchanges, be very selective about who you do it with and how many you have. Make sure the ads you do place there aren’t a direct competition to what you have to offer. They should be for a product or service that is related to what you have to offer though. Try to do link exchanges with sites that will link to you from a semi-prominent page on their site.

When building links, be sure that you include your site’s keywords in the anchor text of the link. For example, if your site’s main keywords are buy widgets and blue widgets, you might use the anchor text buy blue widgets.

Don’t get caught up in the process of placing numerous ads for other sites on your own web pages. Not only is it distracting to the customers who visit your site, but it can cost you business. When a visitor clicks a link to somewhere else there is a very high risk that they won’t be returning to yours.

Building links is time consuming, but with hard work and some ingenuity, you can gain good search engine rankings.

Link Building the Most Important Thing

November 21, 2008

Jaturont Thanapura asked:

Link building is considered to be the mainly significant criteria for getting good search engines ranking. The Search Engines gives a lot of heaviness to websites that have quality web pages connecting to them. The Search Engines believes this to be a vote for that website; more often than not that’s the index page or home page of the website. The tactic for manufacture web pages vote for your page is termed as association building strategy in search engine optimization. With times search engines are realizing the exploitation of link building webmasters do to get on peak in search engines. Like high page rank web pages started advertising back links at a good quality amount and webmasters started trading reciprocal links.

I think previous to starting to build links an SEO needs to initially know the product, like when the corporation is into advertising software’s then initially try locating the geographical market on Internet for it. Let’s elaborate this with an instance; a company was into promotion online software tools to customers in US. Here the main market was US. So it was extremely significant to have back links that could provide them weight in U.S data centers of the search engines for the reason that people searching for these goods in US would be connecting to the adjoining data center of the search engine and as we all know no 2 data center displays the identical results.

The mutual link page had PR of 4 so the Webmaster was in a polite position of selection previous to providing a link back. The criteria’s set were:.

1) The Websites that had their theme related to software industry were the only ones targeted.

2) The Websites that had their mutual link page PR of 3 and above were only considered.

3) The Website needs to be a USA based website other no mutual link exchange would take place.

For quality back link a Webmaster can at all times register their website with well rated directories, business specific directories worldwide. The will help you in getting one way back links and will have a better value since they are from the same theme.

A one-way link-buildings plan takes focused concentration and excellence service. Organic SEO experts have to squander an adequate amount of time to deploy several required techniques into bringing about worth link popularity step up for your web site. So, make sure they build one-way links that bear your preferred key phrases.

Link Generation: Building a Free Link Network

November 21, 2008

building links
Tim Whiston asked:

Building links for improved traffic and better search engine position is a critical task many marketers struggle with. This article will show you how to build a whole network of backlinks for free.

The Web is built on links. Obviously the more links you have pointing to your Web pages the more traffic you can potentially receive. Ideally you’ll have a lot of links from sites that are related to yours, thus resulting in relevant & targeted traffic.

In addition to direct traffic, a strong network of inbound links will positively influence your rankings in the major search engines. Again it’s important that your links are coming from content that is related to your site.

One of the simplest and most effective link building tactics is to create a network of free content sites. With just a little work you can have dozens of relevant pages linking back to your target Websites. Listed below are the various elements of just such a link network.

Article Submission

Most people already understand the value of article marketing. But it’s worth mentioning briefly to be sure.

Creating and submitting a large number of articles that contain links back to your Web pages is the ideal way to launch your own content & link network. You can submit articles to directories and contact blog and site owners directly with original articles.

Blogger

Blogger.com is the free blog network owned by Google. Opening an account takes only a few minutes, and then you can create as many separate blogs as you like.

It’s a good idea to create a blog that focuses on only one or two core (and related) topic. And be sure to include good keywords in the name of your blog. This will allow you to link to your site from related content.

Be sure to create a number of keyword rich posts and to add a liberal number of keyword-anchored links from these posts. The Google spiders love Blogger and thus your sites will be indexed very quickly through the links you place from here.

WordPress Network

WordPress.com also has a free blog network. It’s a good ides to open an account here and create a series of relevant blogs, which you can then link to your core sites and to your Blogger posts.

Remember to place solid keywords into the name of your blog. This will be your actual blog domain and will help with search engine optimization and the relevance of outgoing links.

Squidoo.com

Squidoo is a social media authority site. You can open a free account and then create as many lenses as you like.

A lens is a single page authority hub on a particular subject. So you’d want to create one or more lenses around specific keywords related to your primary Websites.

And of course you can link from these lenses to your main domain and many of your internal pages. You can also add the RSS feed for your Blogger and WordPress free blogs directly into your Squidoo lens, thus creating backlinks for those portals as well.

Google Pages/Google Sites

Google Pages is no longer accepting new members, but if you have an old account you never used now is the time to fire it up. Google Sites is now the place where Google free account holders can create free Web pages.

You can create separate accounts here, always using good keywords as your account name will be the actual subdomain name where your free site is located. Then you will be able to build a number of simple, content and keyword rich Web pages that all link back to your other free resources and of course to your primary Website.

In the above scenario, you are creating a multitude of Web pages and blog posts that talk about your core Website. These utilities will all link among themselves to create maximum exposure and to encourage search engine spiders to crawl your entire network.

And clearly each resource will link back to your main business site. This will result in the search engines indexing and ranking you from these free pages, and will also generate a good deal of organic traffic from targeted content.

Building a free link network is a simple process. As long as you apply quality content improved traffic and search engine position is an inevitable result of this strategy.
