Justin Briggs asked:

In the world of Web 2.0, link building has shifted to social bookmarking and social media sites. People produce high quality content in hopes of baiting social media site users to link to them. Webmasters are also using social bookmarking sites to generate easy one-way back-links. Many people quickly forget the benefits of Web 1.0 link building. Although Web 2.0 spurred the creation of many new forms of sites, Web 1.0 did not die. Website link directories, although not what they once were, are still all over the net.

Link directories organize links to hundreds or thousands of sites. The most popular of these are the DMOZ, Best of the Web, and Yahoo directories. For a long time, webmaster used this as a method of link building. Over time though, webmasters used this site format to spam links. The result is that many directories have been discounted. Many internet marketers now ignore them as a link building method.

Directory submissions should be used as one method in your overall link building plan. These links are low quality, but they are one-way keyword anchored back links. These links do not provide massive authority to dominate competitive niches, but they can provide a significant amount of juice to niche sites focusing on long tail keywords.

An important part of link building is to create a diverse link profile. Directory links allow you to increase the size of your link profile by generating links from a variety of new sites. Do not discount this age old method of promotion, because many skilled internet marketers won’t.

The most important part of directory submissions is to generate good back links. You will not be receiving any quality direct traffic from these directories. Their purpose is to generate links to improve your rankings. With this in mind, you need to evaluate the quality of the directory. Many spam directories link out and promote gambling, porn, and Viagra sites. You want to avoid these directories, since they may create a negative association with your site. Look at a directory’s pagerank, the pagerank of internal pages, the number of pages indexed, and the sites that directory supports.

There are two important tips to remember when doing submissions. First, this is for anchored links. Try your hardest to get an anchor that includes your main keyword. Second, you need to vary your anchor text. Having too many links with the same text does not look natural. You should make effort to mix up your anchor text when submitting to web directories.

Simply put though, directories are a solid option for those building links to long tail niche sites. When combined with other link building methods, they can be very effective.

Keywords: Increase Link Popularity, Get Traffic, Link Building

November 21, 2008

link building methods
Cliff Posey Jr asked:

To increase link popularity, you need solid link building techniques. Link building allows you to establish relevant inbound links to your website, which in turn increases search engine rankings and helps you get traffic.

If you aren’t familiar with the different methods people use to increase link popularity and get traffic, the first thing you need to know is that not every link building method is considered acceptable. In fact, some of the methods used to increase link popularity are considered so unethical that they can actually get you in trouble with the various search engines.

To help you differentiate between what is ethical and what is not, here is a list of the most common link building methods used to get traffic:

Social Bookmarking

There has been a lot of discussion lately in regards to using social bookmarking as a way to get traffic and increase link popularity. Some people think that this link building technique borders on unethical.

The truth is that it depends on how you utilize social bookmarking sites. If you are an active member of a social bookmarking community who posts links to a personal website and other relevant sites to increase link popularity for everyone, you are doing nothing wrong. If, on the other hand, you create an account and repeatedly submit your own links and nothing else to get traffic, you are participating in spam-like behavior.

Spamming

Spamming can sometimes get traffic to your website, but it is not the best way to increase link popularity. Most of the search engines frown upon spamming and have the ability to catch inexperienced spammers within a month or two.

The following link building techniques are considered unethical spamming by the major search engines: participation in unrelated and centralized link farms, automatically generated doorway pages, and false redirects.

Article Submission

Manual and automated article submission is another link building technique that has garnered proven results over the years. Article submission is widely thought to be an ethical way to increase link popularity and get traffic. Nevertheless, there are exceptions to the rule.

For example, article submission that is fully automated but not targeted is usually considered spam. It is also a huge waste of time when compared to other link building strategies. If you want to get traffic and increase link popularity, you must submit articles to the right directories.

CBuying Links

Search engines often advise against buying backlinks as a way to increase link popularity and get traffic. The reason is because it cheats their ranking system and is therefore considered unethical. Even so, there are plenty of website owners who employ this link building technique and reap great rewards.

If you want to give this link building strategy a try, the key is to start slowly by buying only a few backlinks. Buying 1,000 links in one day looks suspicious. You will also want to be careful as to where you buy your links from. Ten quality backlinks will help you increase link popularity and get traffic; 100 poorly regarded backlinks will not. Keep in mind you backlinks need to come from what search engines will consider good neighborhoods.

Secrets to Link Building on Autopilot

November 21, 2008

link building methods
John Sullivan asked:

The secret to getting good rankings in the search engines above all other methods is the number of incoming links to your sites, there are many ways to get links, such as writing articles that will normally be submitted to article directories that allow two or three links in the author’s bio where you can link back to any sites you choose.

Many article directories will not allow direct links to affiliate sites, so you will have to link to another site first such as a blog and then perhaps write a review about an affiliate product and then add a link to the affiliate sales page.

Bookmarking articles on social bookmarking sites is another way to get traffic and also good quality links back to your sites. There are various methods that produce the best results from this such as using various accounts with each site and not only bookmark the same sites all the time as this can get your account suspended.

Writing a blog and keep updating the content is another way to get links as there are various techniques that can be used to get the search engines to visit your blog such as pinging after each new post you make. If you update often then the search engine spiders will visit often to find your new content.

Another technique that can be used with blogs together with static sites is to use RSS and add your blogs feeds to RSS aggregators that will result in getting more links also.

It is possible to set up sites on free web 2.0 sites that will allow you to post content with links back to your main sites. There are many high page rank sites that are available to start this process.

The problem with most of the methods that result in getting links to your sites is that is very time consuming. You have to either write lots of articles, blog posts etc or have them outsourced which can be a good idea if you have the funds to do so as this will result in faster results.

The other option that is available is to join a membership that allows linking between members sites; the problem with this is that this type of membership has been very expensive with monthly costs of anything up to $800 depending on the services offered.

But now it is possible to join one of these sites that will offer automatic linking for you without writing any articles or blog posts apart from what you already have written for a very reasonable price.

The links are added slowly as the search engines like to see and the results are very good for anyone looking to automatically add links over a continuous period while concentrating on other tasks to build their business.

You no longer have to pay hundreds of dollars a month to get this type of linking system working for you sites. This is the most effective system in terms of cost and money to build your sites rankings in the search engines with an automatic link building plan.

You just have to submit your sites details add some simple code to your sites and then you will start receiving links to your sites without doing any other work. You can forget about this and all you have to do is keep checking how many links have been added to your sites and see your rankings improve in the search engines.

Five Easy Ways to Build Links

November 21, 2008

building links
Cecilia Satovich asked:

The following list explains ten different ways to boost links and increase traffic:

1. Create a List: People are attracted to titles like “Top Ten Ways to ___” or “Learn ___ in 5 Easy Steps.” Lists of helpful tidbits are easy to read and attractive to the reader on the go. Information that could be turned into a list include names of experts, strategies to accomplish a goal, tips, resources, etc. Including list-like articles in your electronic newsletter boost readership and drive more traffic to your Web site.

2. Article Submissions: Writing articles and submitting them to various article submissions sites, may be one of the best ways to get exposure. Targeted groups may stumble upon your article and consider you an expert. These types of practices build trust and, in return, boost traffic. Some sites to check out include EzineArticles, GoArticles, and iSnare.

3. Social Bookmarking: Sites like Del.icio.us and Digg are becoming more and more popular. These types of sites are ways for Internet users to store, organize, share and search bookmarks of web pages. In a social bookmarking system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. If a site related or linked to yours is tagged, there is a chance that interested readers may find your site too.

4. Local Links: Don’t forget to check that you have a link from area organizations too. Chambers of commerce and libraries usually have outgoing links to area businesses. If you part of member organizations, a link on their site is normally a part of membership rights.

5. RSS-ify: If there are lists of articles, events, or press releases that are regularly updated, it may be a good idea to turned them into an RSS feed. RSS is a Web technology that is rapidly gaining popularity. People are adopting RSS readers and adding their favorite sites for updated information, like news and events.

These five tips are just a few ways to help build links to your site. For more information on building links or driving traffic to your site, contact NuRelm for advice or visit our Virtual Library for informational articles on online marketing. Visit us on the Web at www.NuRelm.com.

3 Essential Tactics For An Mlm Blog Link Building Plan

November 21, 2008

building links
Jon Roussel asked:

There are two ways in which you can build links to your MLM blog: By following a plan or haphazardly. Your plan can be as simple as deciding just how much time you are going to spend on link building, then making the most out of that time by being organized. This is the first of four articles on a link building plan for an MLM blog. This article discusses four tactics as part of an MLM blog link building plan.

1) Forum Posts

With a little bit of practice, forum posting is easy to do.

Most forums are seriously handicapped when it comes to SEO. This is because there are often many similar threads, centered around the same core keywords, Many people use long and ugly URL’s, There are very few if any links pointing to threads, most just go to the main page. Duplicate content issues exist.

Improve your chances by posting in threads that make it to the front page of Digg or other social media sites.

Look for posts with high linkability value. For network marketing, you will find such posts and threads in forums like Conquer Your Niche and The Warrior Forum.

2) Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking is easy to do and takes little time. You can post links to deli-icio-us quickly.

Many social bookmarking sites, however, give your links very little juice. But even if they do, the tags on the from pages are the most popular ones, so there is a lot of competition to rank high.. Your link will be slipping to the back pages and moving its position all the time, from the first page of that tag to the 5th, 10th, 20th page and so on.

Improve your chances by building your own tag . On less used sites, your tag could end up being linked from the front page all the time, if you save enough links in that tag, your links would be just 1 link away from the front page.

Add as many tags you can to every link you submit, as long as they are pertinent to the subject of the article.

3) Social Media

Social media linking can be very effective when done correctly and consistently and should always be part of your link building plan.

This strategy is not easy and requires consistent effort. Building up your profile, becoming a top user, making friends and writing good link bait are challenging and time consuming activities.

The payoff, however, can be significant. If you get to the front page you get a large number of links usually, depending on your subject. The page where your link is listed can become a PR4-5 on Digg.

Build a strong profile on a niche social media site that is closely or exactly related to your blog’s subject. Your readers from these sites will be highly targeted and thus more likely to subscribe or be interested in the rest of your articles.

Good sites to begin with include Digg, Newsvine, PlugIM and Shoutwire.

Network with other bloggers, and once in a while, ask them to vote your story, A story with a number of initial votes and a few comments is much more likely to be voted by other users of that social media site.

When you’re a beginner and you’re not yet quite so known, the best thing you can do is to combine great content with a good link building plan Start off with these methods and you will be well on your way toward building a large opt in list and hundreds of enrollments in your home based business.
