Blogger Search Engine Optimization

December 19, 2009

Blogging has become a prime media for sharing ideas, communicating on the Internet and generating interest or buzz traffic to websites. The latter is what really interests us in an online marketing perspective.

By building a blog that provides useful information, you can gain following of readers who visit and subscribe to your articles. From this reader base, you can create permission based contact lists or provide links to products, services and other websites. However, even if you have the best blog in the world, if no one is able to find your blog you will be writing it for an audience of one (you!). So, how do you get people to visit your blog and read your articles? You need to make your blog as easy to find as possible! You can easily increase the traffic to your blog by following four steps:

1. You need to make sure your blog articles are Search Engine Optimized (SEO) or at least search engine compliant. This means adding in Keywords into the Meta Tags for your blog and by writing content rich articles that leave the HTML links until the very bottom (known as the Resources section).

2. Submit Your blog articles to other blog sites and article sharing websites. The most popular article submission site is ezinearticles.com. You will need to make sure your articles conform to their rules, but they will share your article with their high-traffic visitors and you can include a link to your blog in the Resource section of the article. 3. Make sure your blog is indexed! This means having your blog “pinged” and “crawled” by sites that index blog websites. This makes your blog articles easier to find for both their subscribers and other search engines that use them to find useful and key-word matching articles.

Here are some recommended free Blog Index and Ping sites:

Register with blog search engines and check your rating on these engines. This will let you try different meta tags and blog postings to try and get your blog articles listed as high in search result ranking as possible. Having a first page ranking is very important. Seo Press Formula – Blogging Your Way to the Bank?

December 14, 2008

Brian Johnson’s latest product, Seo Press Formula,, is launching on November the 6th. He has worked in internet marketing for just over six years full-time and this latest product (having only produced just two products ever to date) he reveals the ways he created traffic and sales on the internet Wordpress. In his own words, he aims to “share everything I know about wordpress and driving free search engine traffic for profit”. It is a basic statement, but does he manage to achieve what he set out to do?

SEO Press Formula comes bundled as an eBook of over 70+ pages and videos that relate back to several parts of the main eBook. The eBook goes over several sections but is mainly divided into just these parts: A look at web sites on the internet, setting up your blog and how to make it as SEO friendly as humanly possible, niche exploration, extra keyword research & information and then ends with some further information about web 2.0/video/social bookmarking websites. The material covered is presented well and is easy reading. There are over 20+ videos that offer a visual demonstration of some of the sections covered in the main eBook, but for people that are strapped for time and do not don’t feel like watching the videos to see if there is anything of use will find a basic description of what each video covers in the main eBook. In a nutshell, the main eBook details all the necessary steps someone should implement to set up a blog and making it SEO friendly so to attract as much traffic as possible based on the keywords they have chosen. Brian has tried to sell his material as a plan, hence the title Seo Press Formula. The main eBook is essentially what he considers to be the plan people need to execute if they wish to make cash making blogs. Taking that into consideration, let us look at where I believe the product fails to deliver.

The sales page for Seo Press Formula boldly claims “How I Made $21,192.61 in 90 Days” but the actual product in does not go into much depth or detail of how you could make those sales or income. Statements like this on sales pages should be taken with a grain of salt. Furthermore another let down is that half of the main eBook is dedicated to actually installing and making your blog SEO friendly (approx 40+ pages or so). A big portion of that material is basic and can easily found elsewhere online for no charge. To give an example one part covers how to install wordpress and another covers installing widgets like All in One SEO to improve the SEO factor of your blog. While most of the information covered in those pages is crucial and definitely can help your blog rank higher for your chosen keywords (such as permalinks etc), it seems to be that the norm for many products is that a big portion of the material is dedicated to basic or fundamental steps which leads me to personally consider this product is more for beginners or beginners with a little experience. Again, there is nothing bad about fundamental or basic information, but why aren’t authors writing 40+ pages on advanced material?

While more than half of the material is basic, a lot is covered and a lot if not all of the information given is valuable and isn’t fluff. A section I liked was that the author even suggests what sections you could skip or skim over if you already have some experience in blogs etc. Based on just how much is offered, there are bound to be parts that some beginners did not know about or have read about and just have not looked at in much detail. I think most people know that there are many steps one can do to improve the SEO ranking of a website and it is very easy to pass over some methods or tricks that you can use. It is in situations similar to this where I think the methods offered is a good refresher and can be good to jog your memory of what can be done to try and improve your SEO ranking. Another part about SEO Press Formula which I think offers some use for beginners is about niche exploration. While this does not mean the niche exploration is the same length as just creating and making your blog SEO friendly (more than 40 pages), but it does appear to offer some valuable information. Basic ways people can find possible niches (checking eBay etc), then scoping out competition and competing sites in addition to estimated keyword volume and using google trends to identify possible trends. The information found within is once more fundamental and very basic, but for a those starting out it should be of value. Usually, most products released often completely ignore market/niche selection or at best offer a couple of lines of what they call information but usually is nothing more than fluff. Lastly, at the end of the eBook there is a large resource area listing social book marking sites, rss directories and other resources folks can use to link to help improve the rank of your website. It is an extensive list and people should not really have any need to search for more places to submit to online as there are more than enough.

Is it of any value? I guess the best way to gauge this is by looking at what Brian set out to do with his new product. His original aim was to teach someone everything he knew about blogging and getting free traffic. Did he deliver? Basically I think he did and would say yes. There is a lot of information offered about creating blogs and then using different tactics to drive free traffic to it. I think when he talks about generating profit that he fails to deliver. I would say that the package basically focuses on blog creation and getting traffic based on different SEO tactics. Other than adsense or affiliate links not much in-depth detail or information is really given to generating profit. Personally Brian’s latest product does deliver, as long as you purchase it with the intent of learning as much as possible about making blogs SEO friendly and getting traffic. The information contained within is extensive but it is aimed more to beginners or intermediate beginners. People with any kind of experience will probably still find a tidbit or two of valuable information inside, but I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone who already had some knowledge in the area of blogging. In summary, if you are a beginner you stand to more than likely gain some good information from this product.

15 Tips to Optimize Your Blog for Search Engine Optimization

December 13, 2008

Blog SEO is one of the most effective way to build automated traffic to your blog. You might have learn some basic SEO strategy, but have you heard that blog has a very different way that allows you to get your blog on the first page very quick and easy.

Most blogger will rush to build backlinks, but they will discover ranking is hard and struggling because they have forgotten to do some “On-Blog Optimization” that would help them to get to the first page few times quicker. These On-Blog Optimization are:

1. Use Domain Name That Contain Keywords

Domain name gives you a huge advantage to get to the first page on the search engines. I’ve seen websites that have only few links that rank higher than sites which have hundreds of backlinks. The difference is just these sites domain name contain their keywords. This makes the search engine thinks that the domain name is dedicated to show only contents about the keyword.

2. Does Your Blog Title Contain Keywords?

Type keywords in your blog title. When the blog title is your keywords, the h1 tag and title tag on your blog will become your keywords. Each page of your blog will link back to the main page of your blog with the keywords too. All of these gives you extra SEO benefits to your blog.

3. Does Your Tagline Contain Keywords?

Every Wordpress blog’s general setting, you’ll realize something below your blog title called ‘Tagline’ or description in other blog platform. Tagline is another important location to type your keywords. Make sure get it done.

4. Do You Miss Out Ping?

Ping is a important function of each wordpress blog will have. Everytime you publish a new article, your blog will ping itself to inform few websites you’ve created new information on your blog. Ping also helps to inform search engines you updated new information on your blog. Search engines like websites and blogs that update themselves frequently because they offer their users up-to-date and quality information. Search engine will usually rank your blog high if you ping often. Remember to import more ping services in your setting.

5. Are You Using Duplicated Contents?

Beware of duplicated content on your blog. Try not to reuse your own or others’ content on your blog. Reusing same content doesn’t help in ranking because search engines don’t index many pages that contain the same content because it might annoy their users and it might be a way to avoid spammers to increase their page by duplicating same contents.

6. Applying The Technique Of Keyword Density

Do you mention your keywords in your blog? Repeat your keywords often. Try to keep your density of keywords above 2% and below 7%. It means you got to have keyword you aim for 3 to 6 times in every 100 words you wrote. The more often you use the keywords in your post, the more the search engines thinking your blog is relevant to the keywords. Many people already aware of this method, this makes some internet marketer stuff keywords in their page. Google penalize page that overuse this method. Try to keep it below 7%.

7. Relevant Keywords

Since many people discover the keyword density method, Search engines have created a different algorithm that can judge websites’ content by the amount of relevant keywords. If you are using Wordtracker or Google Keyword Tool, these tool is able to give you many other keywords that are related to the keywords you aim for. Use some of them in your articles too. For example, you’ll see “pimple” and “blackhead” as related keywords when you search for acne.

8. Speed Blogging

If you post a new articleon your blog 3 times a day on your blog or more, Google think that your blog have the latest news about a topic and always provide fresh contents. As a result, you’ll rank easier. If you have a new blog, start posting once every 3 days and increase your post to once a day after 1 month. If your blog has been there for certain period, it’s up to you.

9. Page Volume

Another tip many Black Hat SEO trick users know is increasing the vloume of webpages. However, we try to do it in a white hat approach by posting more new articles. The more pages your blog has, the more content rich and informational the search engines think your blog is. As a result, your blog will be ranked higher.

10. Is Your Page Long Enough?

Publish posts have contain more than 250 words to get your page indexed quicker and stay in Google longer. As I mentioned, there’re many spammers who use the technique of increasing blog page quantity to manipulate search results. They might simply use a few words to publish a page. Search engines have ways to calculate the words to ensure it doesn’t happen.

11. What Sites Are You Linking To?

Do you know that your blog will get lower ranking if you link to a spam site or bad site? It is the same the other way round. If you link to a high authority site, your blog will have a higher ranking too. I haven’t did any experiment to prove it yet but I am a strong believer of this concept.

12. Interlinking

Is your blog posts linking to each other? Interlinking is a tip many internet marketers apply to increase Blog SEO traffic from keywords you don’t aim for. Although backlinks from the same site is not as good as backlinks from other websites, they are useful in ranking too especially you are able to have it done automatically with blogs. Use “Similar Post” plugin and create links to your popular posts at your sidebar.

13. Change Title Tags On Each Of Your Posts

Another tip to get more search engine traffic from untargeted keywords, it’s crucial to have the title tags of each of your blog post start with the post title first. You can use a free plugin called “All In One SEO Pack Plugin” that will do this automatically.

14. Create SEO Friendly URLs

The url of each of your blog post will not contain any keywords which people would search in the search engines in it by defaul. It might be something such as http://your-blog.com/?p=123. To make each of your blog posts more seo friendly, it is important to change your blog’s url to keywords. You can go to the blog’s settings and customize the permalink into “/%category%/%postname%”. This permalink structure will turn change the url of your post into urls that have the words in your post title.

15. Does Your Blog Has A Map?

Having a sitemap on your blog will definitely help you to rank faster because robot bots from Google could only crawl certain amounts of links. If your blog has a good sitemap that allows the bots to crawl your blog easily, more pages will get indexed and continue to get a lot of traffic from the search engine. But creating your own sitemap requires

Create Your Very Own Blog

December 11, 2008

First of all it important to look at why we would want to create our own blog?

A blog is your very own space on the internet to catalogue your thoughts, ideas, opinions & suggestions on absolutely anything you want.

You might ask ‘Why would anyone want to hear my opinion on xyz?’ but I would then ask you to answer this question: ‘Is there anyone else out there who has had exactly the same life as you?’

The answer is a resounding no. You are unique, which means that the your experiences and viewpoints your learning and outlook will be different to that of anyone else and therefore will be something that other people will take an interest in.

Whatever your interests are, by creating your own blog you can share your experiences of them with other people and who knows, someone might even learn something.

If you are promoting a business online a blog is a great way to increase your SEO by increasing the number of links back to your main site. It is also a place for your colleagues, affiliates and downline to visit you and is a great way to confirm your position as a leader in your field when you provide them with regular, good quality content.

There are many blogging services online and I strongly recommend that you have a look around and find the best one for you, I did and that is how I came across http://Blogger.com This is one of the easiest systems I have ever come across and you can actually have your own blog up and running in a matter of minutes. Here’s how:

Step 1 – When you arrive at the home page click on the ‘Create Your Blog Now’ link in the middle of the page – or take the quick tour first if you want to.

Step 2 – You will be redirected to the ‘Create an account’ page where you will need to supply blogger with 5 bits of very basic information. Then read and accept the terms & conditions and click on ‘continue’

Step 3 – You will then be taken to the ‘Name your Blog’ page where you will need to… that’s right, name your blog.

The name you decide to give your blog should be a simple catchy description of the purpose of your blog. If it is for business purposes then keep it clear, professional and direct; if it’s for personal/social use then you can probably afford to be a little more creative ;-)

You will then need to decide on the blog address, again if it’s for business use then remember that you will be giving this address out to people so you want it to be something appropriate. – Once you have typed in the blog address, which will look like this: http://YOUR-ADDRESS.blogspot.com click on the ‘check availability’ to confirm that it is available. Once it has been accepted type the characters you see in the word verification field and proceed straight to the next page. (There is an option for advanced set-up, but unless you are already quite techno savvy it‘s something you can come back to later.)

Step 4 – Next you will be asked to choose a template for your blog. This is a chance for you to put some of your personality into the blog so take your time and search through all the templates. Imagine the kind of content you are going to publish and what sort of background you would like to have that framed by. There are 12 to choose from and you can make more changes at a later date if you want to.

Confirm the template you want to use and click continue.

Step 5 – Congratulate yourself! That’s it. You have just created your first blog ready to display your articles, thoughts and suggestions to the world.

Click on the start posting arrow and that will take you into your blogger back office where you can add information to you profile, upload a picture or just start writing.

Once you are ready to present you blog to the world you will need to ‘ping’ your blog. This is not a solo version of the table tennis game instead ‘pinging’ is how you let all blog sites know that your blog is ready to be listed, without this no-one will get to see it.

The great news is that pinging your blog is even simpler than creating it.

Go to http://www.Pingomatic.com and fill in your blog name and address, then scroll down and select all services to ping, then all you need to do is click on the ‘Send Pings’ link and that’s it. Now all those blog listing services will become aware of your blog and be able to list it. Every time you update your blog with another article or thought just go back and re-ping in the same way.

This very simple to set up and use system is a fantastic way to keep you and your business right in the public domain and all it costs is a few minutes of your time.

Blogging, Link Spamming, And White Hat SEO

December 7, 2008

If you are the one that maintains the company blog, you know that your comments get jammed with cheap spam. Which is not a big deal if you use Akismet. But still, it is a little irritating to see all the auto generated comments in your spam filters when you log in.

What’s worse is that I actually stop and check out a few of these links from time to time. Because they are not all porn and pharmacy sites. No sir, many of them are small businesses trying to promote their website. Mortgage companies, real estate agents, lawyers and retail companies. In other words, regular companies just like you and me.

Spamming a million blogs with cheap software every day in the hopes of getting a few backlinks. Probably based on a shallow promise from a really long and really convincing sales letter. Or even a recommendation from a colleague.

Sad.

Because what they don’t know is that it’s really more likely that using these software programs and automated SEO sites is hurting them more than it is helping them. Because it is blasting their links willy nilly all over the internet without any concern where they are going.

think about it for a minute. Do you want your law firm linked to adult blogs? Or Hate blogs? For that matter, do you want your site linked to other websites that are not even remotely related to you or your business?

I know, some of you are actually saying, “yes, I do want links. Thank you very much. We really, really need traffic and we don’t care where it comes from…”

But you should care. Because inappropriate backlinks do not help your site at all. They hurt you site. Guilt by association my friends. In this case, some of the content contained on the sites that link to you carry over to you. Your website is directly defined by the content of these sites. I won’t go into it today, but you can look up “Google Bowling” and see just what can happen by having bad sites link to yours.

As far as the traffic goes, why would you want traffic that is totally irrelevant? I’ll be honest with you, I’m a statistics nut. I love looking at my AWstats website statistics each and every day. I like seeing the increases and I like knowing when there is a decrease.

But I also look to see where these visitors are coming from. Because that’s important too.

I don’t want crap traffic. I don’t want traffic that has nothing to do with blogging or business. Because it doesn’t help us or our company. It’s wasted bandwidth and totally unproductive.

This is why when working on building your backlinks, you need to build them in places that will help your overall SEO. You need to build them in places where, if you do get some visitors, they will likely be visitors that are interested in your products or your services.

At the very least, you want those links to show the search engine spiders some relevancy. To build the authority of your website.

So here is my advice folks. Please don’t use automated software to blast a million blog comments. It’s not the correct way to build your backlinks and it is not the way to work on effective blog SEO.

All it really does is make more work for lots of blog owners. Making them spend more time cleaning up their comments and monitoring them. The links that you do get really aren’t that great.

In the end, all that happens is that you have dropped a few bucks on something worthless. Or even worse, something that you paid for that in the end is costing you more money than you ever imagined.

Blogging For SEO

December 3, 2008

blog seo
Scott Lindsay asked:

If you’ve never heard the term SEO, let me explain briefly what it is, what it does and what it’s for.

SEO is the abbreviation for Search Engine Optimization. This is a web design technique that, when done effectively, draws positive attention from search engines. When your site is optimized for search engines you will discover that search engine users can find your web presence easier to locate when potential customers conduct their first online search.

When developing a site for SEO a web site owner needs to make sure they utilize a well researched keyword or key phrase that will be noticed by the search engine. The optimum number of times the keyword or phrase should be used is around 3-5%. If you use the term less it may not be noticed and if you use it much more it may be considered a spamming technique thus panelizing your site. You may also find that the content is hard to read if you insist on placing the keyword or phrase in locations that do not read naturally.

You’ll notice that the title of this article has to do with blogging. When you conduct a web search using various keywords or phrases you will often find blogs that are listed among the top ten for the phrase you chose. What this means is that if you develop a business blog to benefit your online business you should also work to ensure your core keyword or phrase is evident in your posts.

If you’re wondering why blogs might rank better than a standard business site it’s because blogs are updated more often than full websites. Search engines love to find new content so their interest in your site may be strong due to the new content you are making available. It is possible for a business blog to actually outperform a primary business website in terms of search engine rankings simply because there is more new information to consider and that often translates into improved trust and rank position. What this means is you may have more visitors to your blog than to your primary site. However this scenario is exactly why your business blog can be an important marketing tool for your primary site.

Here’s the equation…

Optimized blog + high search engine rankings = increased traffic to primary site

You just need to make sure that every blog post includes a reason for visitors to come to your primary site and you need to make sure a link is provided with every post on the profile page.

Did you know that when you blog for Search Engine Optimization you are also working to improve the overall traffic flow to your primary site? You do that by consistently blogging with a laser focus utilizing a very specific keyword or phrase.

Consider your business blog a funnel that helps direct the curious to a better answer to the questions they have about the very search term they used to find you. In other words, make it easy to find your site – and visitors will.

SEO Beginner’s Guidelines

December 2, 2008

blog seo
Methyl Vizcarra asked:

Once we are hired to optimize a client’s site, we start taking responsibility for it, may it have a positive or a negative result. But of course, we always guarantee our client good search engine ranking. But what do we do to attain that?

Here are some guidelines for beginners venturing into optimizing their websites for Search Engines:

Use targeted keywords

Do intensive research. Gather key words or phrases that are worth targeting. Look for websites where you can check each search term’s popularity in search engines. These words are the commonly searched terms by the visitors therefor you can get significant traffic once you start to rank on SEs. Keywords with moderate competition and a high number of searches are the best candidates.

Meta Content

Meta content is what users see in the description of your site in the search engine results. This should be relevant for your site to be visited. Detailed meta content can be of great help to your rankings and for the visitors to have a preview of what the site is all about.

A friendly design

A website should be both user and search engine-friendly. The design should be pleasing to the eyes and easy to navigate so that visitors will stay and come back to your site. Keep in mind that you should have something interesting for them not leave on the next second. At the same time, it should have a clean code so that the bots of search engines could easily find your keywords. Take time to create a proper site structure to let bots crawl each pages easily.

Web Content

A perfectly designed site for search engine robots is nothing if the content is not good or if the website has no content at all. Most guests surf the net for information so that’s what you should give them. Your visitors will surely come back if your content is always updated. Just be mindful of the grammar and sentence composition because it says a lot about the credibility of your information.

Relevant Links

The least inbound link that you want to have is from a link farm because bad links could hurt your rankings and your credibility in the market as well. Be very careful in choosing your link partners and make sure that when you submit on directories, choose the right category for your website.

Do not lose hope if you do not reach your goal fast. SEO takes a lot of hard work especially that there are hundreds or maybe thousands of competitors who also wants to be on the top of search engine rankings. Just be patient, be logical and play by the rules.

If you buy SEO Elite, it will take care of this in a few ways.

a. SEO Elite analyzes your competitors’ backlinks and gives you all the details you need about the pages linking to your competitor. You can even use this information to get links on the websites where your rival has links.

After you buy SEO Elite, you can even mail as many sites as you want at once, after creating a mail template. You can also find ‘authority websites’, links to which can significantly boost your ranking.

c. You can check if your link partners are still linking back to you. When you buy SEO Elite, this process becomes a lot simpler.

d. You can submit articles to articles directories all over the Web using this application. Adding a link to your site at the end of these will increase your ranking, and therefore, traffic on your site.

2. You can then feed in your key words and SEO Elite will monitor where your site stands in different search engines, giving you graphs with different time frames.

3. After you buy SEO Elite, you can see exactly which of your pages are indexed by even less popular search engines. If your pages are not indexed, you will naturally not figure in searches.
