Tips on Using Social Networks to Market
December 1, 2008
Andrea Chin asked:
Work and play used to be two separate entities. Today, however, the two are combined when it comes to internet marketing. The use of social networks to market your online business is a popular toy of choice many internet marketers are playing with. There are literally millions of people who live by their social network accounts and each of these people is a potential customer for your business. The art of social network marketing is in the social network page you create for your business or your business pleasure. The key things to remember when using a social network marketing approach include:
~ Making an appealing page. The page you create for your social network marketing needs to be one that everyone will want to read and visit on a regular basis. Unfortunately in today’s society, outward appearance matters. So, be creative and make your social network page inviting and one that arouses curiosity. Placing a pretty or handsome face on your page may very well help increase the chances of acquiring a high number of friends.
~ Earning friends. In the social networking world, the key is social. Your page needs to come across as a socially aware page that is fun, exciting and liked by many. This means acquiring friends and a lot of them. Using the search function to pair up your interests (your business interests) with the interests of others is a great way to build a great friend and fan base.
~ Maximizing the template. There are a million and two templates available online for social networking pages. Internet marketing is all about the look and the feel of the site. Choose a template that is both creative and easy to read. There is nothing worse than a social networking page that is cluttered with a ton of images and music but with no real user friendly functionality.
~ Linking subtly. You have the option on many social networks to send messages to all of the friends on your list. This is a great place to add some links. But, commenting on other peoples pages and in your own social network blog will be the heart of the action for your Internet Marketing campaign. Just make sure not to link in every post and comment, this can be annoying and your friends may start to drop you like flies.
~ Offering more than a business. Social means social. This does not mean you can create a page that is all business and expect to get any returns from the marketing efforts. Push the limits of those social boundaries by taking a stand about something controversial. Being edgy can bring in viewers to your social networking page and thus reverting traffic to your main site.
When choosing a social network for your marketing choice, there are more people to reach than any other medium. Social networks often have integrated videos, voice messages, blogs, comments and blasts or instant messages that can help to get across the point of your site. To fully optimize this marketing strategy, make sure to hyperlink the social network page to your blog, your main site and back to the social networking page thus creating a circle of marketing.

Directory Submissions, Web 1.0 Link Building
November 21, 2008
Justin Briggs asked:
In the world of Web 2.0, link building has shifted to social bookmarking and social media sites. People produce high quality content in hopes of baiting social media site users to link to them. Webmasters are also using social bookmarking sites to generate easy one-way back-links. Many people quickly forget the benefits of Web 1.0 link building. Although Web 2.0 spurred the creation of many new forms of sites, Web 1.0 did not die. Website link directories, although not what they once were, are still all over the net.
Link directories organize links to hundreds or thousands of sites. The most popular of these are the DMOZ, Best of the Web, and Yahoo directories. For a long time, webmaster used this as a method of link building. Over time though, webmasters used this site format to spam links. The result is that many directories have been discounted. Many internet marketers now ignore them as a link building method.
Directory submissions should be used as one method in your overall link building plan. These links are low quality, but they are one-way keyword anchored back links. These links do not provide massive authority to dominate competitive niches, but they can provide a significant amount of juice to niche sites focusing on long tail keywords.
An important part of link building is to create a diverse link profile. Directory links allow you to increase the size of your link profile by generating links from a variety of new sites. Do not discount this age old method of promotion, because many skilled internet marketers won’t.
The most important part of directory submissions is to generate good back links. You will not be receiving any quality direct traffic from these directories. Their purpose is to generate links to improve your rankings. With this in mind, you need to evaluate the quality of the directory. Many spam directories link out and promote gambling, porn, and Viagra sites. You want to avoid these directories, since they may create a negative association with your site. Look at a directory’s pagerank, the pagerank of internal pages, the number of pages indexed, and the sites that directory supports.
There are two important tips to remember when doing submissions. First, this is for anchored links. Try your hardest to get an anchor that includes your main keyword. Second, you need to vary your anchor text. Having too many links with the same text does not look natural. You should make effort to mix up your anchor text when submitting to web directories.
Simply put though, directories are a solid option for those building links to long tail niche sites. When combined with other link building methods, they can be very effective.

Submit to a List of Free Article Directories to Build Links But Observe the Rules
November 21, 2008
Gen Wright asked:
on the Internet is all about building links. There are many ways to build links, and one of the most effective method for building links is to submit useful articles to article directories – for free. But there are some rules to observe. Observe these rules, and you will be building lots of quality back links for free. Ignore them, and you’ll just be wasting everyone’s time. Here are some basic rules: 1) Submit only useful articles. This is obvious but many Internet marketers are so obsessed with links that they forget to think about the value of their articles. So they start submitting crappy articles with few words, of little value, and are poorly organized. Some even resort to using software to rewrite articles. That’s alright if the software works properly, but unfortunately, most don’t. The rewritten articles often spit back nonsensical articles. Never submit these articles to article directories – or risk getting your account banned or deleted. 2) Articles are too short. Some article directories are kind enough to accept articles with only 300 words. Those are the compassionate article directories. Most article directories will not consider accepting articles with 300 words or less. So be prepared to write articles with 450 words and above. At least that will make it look like the article is written by an expert, not a twelve year old writing composition. 3) Too many links or links are in the wrong places. Most article directories do not accept links in the article body, so leave them in the author resource boxes. Also, don’t be greedy and try to include more than two links. If a web visitor wants to visit your website, two links will be more than enough. Keep the number of links in your author box to two and you will see a higher acceptance rate. 4) Use of affiliate links. Many article directories do not allow direct linking to affiliate websites. If you really want to promote products as an affiliate, set up review pages, and link to these pages. This way, you have full control over your own affiliate links, and the article directories will be more inclined to approve your articles. 5) Too many spelling or grammar errors. Most article directories can overlook or forgive a few errors here and there. After all, articles are written by human beings, and human writers do make mistakes. If your articles are useful, they will still approve the articles. But if your articles are full of spelling and grammar mistakes, making the article painful for anyone to read, your article will be rejected. So read the articles yourself, several times if possible. If you can’t stand the errors yourself, don’t submit them to the article directories. Proof read several times over and correct the mistakes before submission. The above are five basic rules. If you observe the rules above, you will stand a very good chance of being accepted. And once your articles are published, you will gain back links. That is the whole point of article marketing – building links. This is a time tested method that has continued to work for years. Successful article marketers have been able to make five figures per month based on this single traffic generation method alone. Give it a go if you haven’t done so.

Understand Social Networks Better for Effective Business Promotion
July 17, 2008
Jonathan Mac asked:
Social networking is a big buzz in today’s world of Internet marketers. Social networking can be said to be virtually started (introduced) by My Space and facebook. Today, these two giant social networking websites are the ones most visited by people. Many of the Internet marketers have found charming opportunities to market their products through these social networking websites. Though all the members of these social networking websites are not targeted, many of the Internet marketers consider this as an effective means to get more free exposure to their business.
There are many social networking websites that are emerging each and every month. TalkMoola.com, Zenzuu, Friendswin, Yuwie, and Wowzza are some of them launched recently. With all these social networking websites, Internet marketers have a wide source to promote their business. However, many of the Internet marketers complain that social networking is a complete waste of time and they didn’t find gain out of it. It is because not all network marketers have caught on to the power of social networking yet or how to properly use social networking to explode their businesses. But the ability to further expose themselves and their business to other like-minded people is extremely valuable and profitable for most.
The most important fact about social networking websites is that all social networks that are created are not equal. Social networks differ in many ways. It is up to you to choose the best social network that suits your business promotional needs.
Look for Social networks with similar interests
Before signing up with any social networking website for business promotion, you should make sure that the network has people who would be interested in what you have to offer, or are like-minded to you. For example, if you are trying to promote your business of electronic goods online, then you should look for social networking websites with related communities and forums. If you try to promote your electronic product in a social network that includes members looking for a date or love, it would be a complete waste of time.
Active involvement is essential
Maximum exposure to your business through social networks can be achieved only by increasing the contacts. This can be achieved by accepting all the friend invitations within the social network and searching for like-minded people in the community and adding them as friends. The larger your list of friends the more active you will appear to be and more people will take heart to what you have to say. Active involvement in social networks is essential for effective business promotion. Regular forum participations, blog postings and messaging to friends are some kinda active involvement. While promoting a business in a social network, bulk messaging is a facility to look for. Some social networks limit the amount of people you are able to send a message to at once. On the other hand, some social networks will let you add unlimited friends and you can send them a bulletin or message to all your friends at once anytime with ease. This is what you should be looking for.
Create your own social networking website
It’s always good to create your own social networking website for promoting your business. Creating your own social networking website will be beneficial than promoting your business in other social networks. This will help you to strengthen the customer-supplier relationship and also helps you to identify your customer needs. Designing a social networking website is just a breeze today. Professional social network web designers can help you design unique social networking websites to grab more audience.
